What to expect from a workshop
The workshops run either for a half day, a full day or two consecutive days (by request).
- 2pm -5pm for the afternoon
- 10am – 5pm (5.30 if necessary) for the full day or days.
I cater from complete beginners to more experienced, or those who want help with their own ideas or projects.
If it is your first time, it is a practical hands on day and you will be able to complete your first small mosaic, maybe a 6inch trivet for the table, a mirror or a house number or name, a pre made template. See GALLERY for images.
If you are coming for the afternoon you will be able to do a coaster or mosaic template (animals, birds, butterfly about 4 inch big). This is approximate as depending on how fast you work and what size tiles or broken china you use depends on the size of the piece you will finish.
I will cover basic cutting and fixing techniques, and you will use mosaic tiles or broken china. To create mosaics is concentrated but highly enjoyable work and does require a certain amount of manual dexterity, as some of the pieces are 1cm sq approx. (bring your reading glasses!!)
We sit together around a large table and benefit from watching and learning from each other. Unlimited tea/coffee and healthy snacks and (for the full day) a delicious organic lunch is provided and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, although you will achieve a lot. I will help you aim for you to finish and grout the piece to take home.
It is a good idea to decide which of the projects you might like to do prior to the day, to make the most of your time and if appropriate bring a drawing or picture to work from, if you cannot decide or do not know where to start, do not worry I will help you with that on the day. The two day course is so you can concentrate and complete a bigger or more complex project and the days can be taken consecutively or separately.
